History of rose oil
Today we have prepared for you the history of rose oil...
Valley of Roses
By "Valley of Roses" or "Rose Valley" we mean the area of the Karlovo and Kazanlak valleys, where over 80% of rose oil is produced in Bulgaria. These include some regions of Stara and Nova Zagora, Hisaria.
Rose
The first written records of rose seedlings date back to 1712. Rose seedlings are planted in the autumn, in the months of October and November. A Rose garden planted in this way yields flowers for processing after three years of cultivation. One of the main, important and most necessary conditions for the quality growth of oil-bearing roses is rain in the spring months of May and June, because then the "giulpan (distillery, where rose oil is produced) gives the most rose oil"... The rose harvest begins in mid-May and lasts until the end of the first half of June. The rose flower harvest itself starts around 4 am and lasts until 10:00 am at the latest. That is when the rose is of the highest quality for harvesting and processing. Rose flowers picked in the afternoon lose 50% of their rose oil content.
