Resolution: What to make and how to keep it?

How to get started with New Year's resolutions?

Lose 20 kilos, quit smoking, learn English, go to the gym, cut down on alcohol. Does this sound like your list, which you always carefully write down and then break by the end of January? Maybe it would be good to think about what you want from yourself. If you're not eating properly, consuming lots of sugary and processed foods, smoking a pack a day, can only say hello in English, and get out of breath even on a simple walk, then a radical resolution logically won't last long. The body isn't used to such treatment, and it rebels in many ways – your legs, head, and entire body ache, you're tired, lethargic, and need to boost your immunity. Instead, think realistically and make small resolutions or nicely one at a time.

Small goals

The key to success is setting small goals. Want to lose weight? Then focus on your diet. Do you skip breakfast? Try to work on it. Do you only eat fried foods? Then incorporate one balanced meal into your diet, adding smaller portions of vegetables to each meal. Vitamins and, for example, probiotics will also come in handy. If you smoke a pack a day, then slowly reduce the number of cigarettes. You and your body will get used to small changes more easily than big jumps, and therefore you have a better chance of keeping your resolutions.

Realistic goals

Are you writing down 'lose twenty kilos' on your list? However, that will take a long time if you want to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way. For example, set a goal to lose 4 kilograms by March. It is a clear and understandable goal, it is not insurmountable in any way. And at the end of March, you can set a new goal again. It's similar with English. You'll learn the first three lessons by the end of March. A simple and realistic goal if you work and take care of your family. By setting realistic goals, you not only support yourself, but also give yourself motivation.

Be gentle with yourself

It doesn't mean the list of resolutions has to be long. In a few weeks, you'll give up most of them anyway and be even more angry with yourself – you didn't keep it again. Feel free to set just one goal, one resolution that you will be able to achieve. It will have encouraging effects on your self-confidence and you will start other plans and resolutions with greater enthusiasm. Take care of your body too. Treat yourself to a massage, peeling or apply fragrant mango butter to your body at home.

Display everything

Do you have your resolution in your head? Put them on paper! It will help you to get a better overview of everything. You can record your weight loss in a calendar or food diary, while your diary will reveal when you exercised, when you went to the sauna or for a long walk with friends. Shopping lists, in turn, will reveal everything you eat. To learn foreign languages, create flashcards that you will always have on hand, and practice words in moments of free time. You will have everything in sight and, in addition, you will see real progress and results.
