Rose oil – production technology
Rose oil is produced by water-washed double distillation of the rose flower Rosa Damascena. Steam is the basic method of distillation, the traditional method was hydrodistillation. Steam turns the rose flower and water into a boiling mash, which is regularly stirred so that the steam passes through the entire mass. The oily components that float to the surface are strained. The remaining water part is distilled a second time to the last extract of rose oil. The set of both production stages is the product – rose oil.
Rose Museum

In Kazanlak, Bulgaria, you'll find the unique Rosa Damascena Museum. The museum was opened in 1967, but it was not until 1969 that it was transformed into the Rose Museum, which is unique worldwide.. Inside, there are 3 rooms containing various items that were used for rose cultivation. There is also a replica of a warehouse and a replica of the first laboratory where the properties of rose oil and water were examined. This laboratory also served to verify genuine Bulgarian oil. A curiosity is the barrel, which was last used in 1947 and still smells of roses.
