The power of botanical and essential oils for a perfect manicure

The power of botanical and essential oils for a perfect manicure

Since ancient times, women have cared for the beauty of their hands by creating their own manicure recipes. Today, in our fast-paced lives, we often resort to quick solutions like gel polish to achieve perfect nails. However, frequent use of harsh chemicals and exposure to UV radiation can lead to serious problems such as thinning, brittleness, discolouration, and even allergic reactions.

What is the difference between carrier and essential oils?

Carrier/vegetable oils are obtained by pressing the seeds of plants, nuts or fruits. They have a greasy texture and can be applied directly to the skin, hair and nails. Carrier oils rich in vitamins, minerals and unsaturated fatty acids nourish and moisturise the skin and nails. They serve as a base in which we dilute essential oils, while softening the skin and creating a protective layer.

Essential oils are plant essences obtained by steam distillation, cold pressing, or other methods. They contain volatile organic compounds, that give plants their characteristic scent and therapeutic properties.Essential oils are lighter and more fluid. They have stronger effects than base oils, and should always be diluted with a base oil before applying directly to our skin or hair. With their antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and blood-circulation-boosting properties, essential oils can work wonders for nail health.

Plant oils for perfect manicures

They are rich in nutrients, which are used as a base for diluting essential oils or for standalone skin and nail care. Here are three of the most popular plant oils for nail care:

  1. Camellia Oil is a true elixir for healthy and beautiful nails. It helps to keep the skin and hair in perfect condition. Thanks to its unique composition, it also offers exceptional benefits for nail care:
Deep hydration: Camellia oil is rich in oleic acid, penetrates deeply into the nail plate and provides intense hydration. This prevents dryness and brittleness, making the nails more flexible and resistant to cracking.
Strengthening the nail plate: With regular use, the nail plate is strengthened, reducing the risk of splitting and breakage.
Stimulating growth: Improves blood circulation in the nail area, promoting growth and strengthening the nails.
Softening the cuticle: Softens and nourishes the cuticle, preventing the formation of a hardened skin layer around the nail.
  2. Jojoba Oil has a unique composition similar to skin sebum, balancing oils in the nails and cuticles. Softens the nail cuticle, prevents nail splitting and creates a protective layer on the nail plate.
  3. Almond Oil is rich in vitamin E and unsaturated fatty acids. Deeply nourishes nails, stimulates growth and soothes irritated cuticles. It also has a softening effect, making it ideal for cuticle massage.

Essential oils for healthy and beautiful manicures

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts with strong therapeutic properties. When used correctly, they can significantly affect nail health. Here are three essential oils that are particularly beneficial for nail care:

  1. Lavender Oil: Known for its soothing and antiseptic properties, lavender oil helps to heal damaged nails and cuticles. It also stimulates nail growth and has antifungal effects, making it ideal for preventing infections.
  2. Eucalyptus Oil: With strong antiseptic properties, eucalyptus oil helps fight nail infections and reduces inflammation. It also improves blood circulation, which helps to heal damaged nails faster.
  3. Rosemary Oil: Rosemary oil is believed to stimulate blood circulation, nourish the nail plate and accelerate nail growth. It also has antiseptic properties and can help fight bacteria and fungi.

How to use essential oils on nails?

By combining base and essential oils, you can create custom nail care blends tailored to your individual needs:

Always dilute essential oils with a carrier oil before applying to nails.

  • Massage: Add a few drops of the mixture to the cuticles and gently massage in.
  • Soaking: Add a few drops of the mixture to warm, salt water and soak nails for 15-20 minutes.

Important: Perform a test on a small patch of skin before use. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.

  2. Mix well to disperse the essential oils.
  3. Apply a small amount of oil to the nails and gently massage into the nail bed and surrounding skin.
  4. Leave on overnight, or for at least 15-20 minutes, to allow the oil to penetrate the nails.
