What is Lactobacillus bulgaricus?
It is a lactobacillus isolated from plants. It was first described in 1905, but only in 2014 was it first isolated and processed into capsules and tablets. In this form, it could be distributed from Bulgaria to the rest of the world. The Lactobacillus bulgaricus contained in our product is isolated from the snowdrop’s flower petals and is therefore unique among other lactobacilli. The Lactobacillus bulgaricus in ProViotic is the GLB 44 strain.
What makes it exceptional, and why do we think it is the most effective strain among lactobacilli?
Lactobacillus bulgaricus is one of more than 200 published species in the Lactobacillus genomic complex, and it exerts one of the greatest effects on our microflora. Lactobacillus bulgaricus produces D(-) lactic acid, which has a decisive anti-cancer effect, protects against various types of radiation, and also has antioxidant action. In terms of size, it is the largest probiotic bacterium, and through its colonization in the intestines it prevents the multiplication of pathogens (disease-causing microbes). Studies by the Italian scientist Bianchi (1999) show that compared with other probiotic bacteria, Lactobacillus bulgaricus adheres best to the wall of the large intestine and then begins to multiply very rapidly. This property predisposes it to stronger therapeutic and antitoxic effects compared with other probiotic bacteria. Upon entering the human body, Lactobacillus bulgaricus stimulates the growth and multiplication of other probiotic bacteria found in the digestive tract, such as L. acidophilus, L. lactis, bifidobacteria, and others.
