3 tips on how to scent your home during the holidays. Tip 3 will change your life!

Creating a fragrant home doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Simply get a pot in which to heat water and dried herbs, herbal teas or spices over a low heat.

1. Herbs for evening relaxation and rest

Put whatever you have at home into a pot of warm water: dried lavender flowers, chamomile or herbal tea with chamomile, nutmeg or flower, lemon balm, and let it simmer over a low heat until the apartment is fragrant.

Lavender has soothing and relaxing effects, chamomile is suitable for a restful sleep, lemon balm helps against stress and nutmeg has a pleasant spicy aroma.

2. For a festive atmosphere

On a low heat, put herbs and spices with a warming scent into a pot of water: cinnamon, cloves, star anise, anise, bay leaf, the rest of the vanilla pod after preparing sweets, or lemon zest and let it simmer.

Cinnamon, cloves and star anise have a typical Christmas scent, anise is more delicate and vanilla adds a sweet note. Bay leaf and lemon zest add fragrance and also help to purify the air.

3. How to get rid of the smell of burnt oil

You definitely know the unpleasant smell of burnt oil that often permeates the whole flat. To get rid of the smell of burnt oil after schnitzels, carp, as well as pancakes and chips, prepare a fragrant pot:

Mix water with a little vinegar (vinegar is the ingredient that removes oil and grease odours). Don't overdo it with the vinegar, it will also evaporate and its scent can be pungent, we can always add more. Add fragrant spices to the pot according to taste, primarily to mask the scent of vinegar. Let the vinegar evaporate on a low heat and ventilate well. Soon there won't be a trace of the fried smell.

Tips for other herbs and spices you can use:

  • for a citrus scent: lemon peel, orange peel, mint, lime, orange
  • for a forest scent: coniferous twigs, pine, spruce, cedar
  • for an oriental scent: cardamom, ginger, ginger syrup, fennel
  • for a chocolate scent: cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon

Experiment with different combinations and find your favourite scent that will bring you joy.
