How to use gua sha for wrinkle reduction and facial lymphatic drainage
Guasha is an ancient Chinese massage technique used to promote health and beauty. Using a smooth stone, most often jade or rose quartz, gentle strokes are performed on the skin. Thanks to the stimulation of the lymphatic system and improved blood circulation, gua sha can bring a range of benefits, including wrinkle reduction and facial lymphatic drainage.
Benefits of gua sha for wrinkle reduction:
- Stimulating collagen and elastin production: Gentle gua sha strokes stimulate fibroblasts, the cells responsible for collagen and elastin production. These proteins give the skin firmness and elasticity, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
- Improved blood circulation: Gua sha stimulates blood circulation in the face, allowing more oxygen and nutrients to reach the skin. This promotes cell regeneration and gives the skin a healthy glow.
- Facial drainage: Gentle massage stimulates the lymphatic system, helping to drain excess fluid from the face. This reduces swelling and firms the skin, making wrinkles less noticeable.
Gua sha benefits for facial lymphatic drainage:
- Facial drainage: Gentle massage stimulates the lymphatic system, helping to drain excess fluid from the face. This reduces puffiness and firms the skin.
- Improved detoxification: Gua sha supports skin detoxification from harmful substances and toxins, improving its overall condition.
- Strengthening the immune system: Stimulating the lymphatic system strengthens the immune system and increases the body's defence capabilities.

Instructions for using gua sha for wrinkle reduction and lymphatic drainage:
- Cool the gua sha tool before use. You can put it in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes. The cold stone has a particularly refreshing and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin.
- Apply a serum or facial oil to the face. This will help the gua sha tool glide better on the skin while ensuring deeper hydration.
- Start massaging the neck. Use gentle strokes to guide the gua sha tool upwards from the collarbones towards the chin. Repeat 5-10 times on each side of the neck.
- Move on to the face. Always massage outwards from the centre of your face. For the area under the eyes, use the stand with two curves, the gap between them belongs on the cheekbone.
- Use the gua sha tool on the forehead with horizontal strokes. Start between your eyebrows and move upwards towards your hairline. Repeat 5-10 times.
- Massage your cheeks in circular motions. Guide the gua sha tool outwards from your nose. Repeat 10-15 times on each cheek.
- Focus on wrinkle-prone areas. To reduce wrinkles around the eyes, guide the gua sha tool in gentle strokes from the inner corner of the eye outwards to the outer corner. To reduce wrinkles on the forehead, guide the gua sha tool in horizontal strokes from the eyebrows to the hairline. To reduce nasolabial folds, guide the gua sha tool in vertical strokes from the nose to the chin.
- Complete the entire massage by repeating steps 2 to 7 on the other side of the face.
Tips:
- Always massage with light pressure to avoid damaging the skin.
- If you have sensitive skin, start with even lighter pressure and gradually increase it.
- Massage movements should be slow and smooth.
