Summer Intimate Care
Just like our digestive system, the area of our intimate parts contains bacteria that are beneficial and keep the internal environment healthy. They also prevent the formation of unwanted bacteria that can cause infections and unpleasant itching. Vaginal problems and mycosis affect approximately 74% of women at least once in their lifetime. Especially in summer, this problem is more than frequent, so it is very important to know the rules of proper intimate hygiene. Statistics show that vaginal problems have already been overcome by more than 2.3 billion women worldwide. And proper hygiene plays a primary role in preventing them.
Hygiene is key and, in this case, the best prevention. However, it matters which intimate hygiene product you use! Research has shown that ordinary soaps and shower gels irritate the sensitive skin of the intimate area, disrupt the internal balanced environment and contribute to the development of inflammation and infections. If left untreated, these can have fatal consequences. So, try our tips for proper feminine hygiene. So that you can keep your intimate areas fresh, clean and, above all, healthy.
1. Keep your underwear clean and dry
Your underwear plays an important role in your intimate hygiene. Clean, dry underwear will help minimise irritation to your intimate area and, if possible, avoid tight satin or synthetic underwear, which can cause problems, especially on hot days. Cotton, a breathable material, is the ideal fabric for underwear as it keeps your skin cool and dry. Fabrics like satin can trap moisture and cause irritation. Tight underwear can also increase friction, which can cause irritation and promote bacterial growth, leading to unpleasant infections.
2. Avoid wearing tight clothing
Avoid wearing tight trousers too often. Wearing tight clothing can cause excessive sweating, which can lead to bacterial and yeast infections. Avoid tight-fitting and non-breathable materials, as they reduce air circulation and increase sweating and friction.
3. Never use regular soap to wash your intimate area
Regular soaps and shower gels are not intended for intimate areas. According to recent research, those who do not use intimate soaps and other products significantly increase their risk of inflammation. Therefore, they should use special shower gels for intimate hygiene intended for this purpose. Your skin has a pH of 5.5, while a healthy vaginal pH ranges from 3.8 to 4.5. Using regular soap can change the pH level of your vagina and disrupt the delicate bacterial balance that keeps it healthy and free from infection.
4. Avoid perfumed products
Fragrances and preservatives in feminine products can do more harm than good. Using heavily perfumed soaps on sensitive areas can cause skin irritation such as itching, redness or burning.
5. Change your pads and tampons regularly
Menstruation can often be more difficult and chaotic than the rest of the month, so you should take even more care of your hygiene. Change pads or tampons every four to six hours to keep up with the flow and prevent the growth of unwanted bacteria.
6. Use soft, dry towels
If you want to dry yourself after a shower, use a clean, soft and completely dry towel. This can save you from the potential risk of infection, as bacteria can easily get trapped on damp towels. Experts also recommend changing your towel every two to three days and washing towels in lukewarm water with a mild soap to avoid disrupting the pH balance.
7. Eat and drink healthier
Finally, here’s a general tip. An unhealthy diet can significantly contribute to an unhealthy environment in your intimate area. We all know the saying, 'you are what you eat'. Drinking enough water and consuming citrus fruits can help reduce sweating, which can be a major cause of infections. Drinking water also keeps your body in good condition, helps flush out toxins and helps keep your vagina clean and healthy.
