Causes of dandruff and care

Dandruff is mainly caused by the overgrowth of the yeast Malassezia, which causes accelerated cell turnover on the scalp. This microflora is a natural part of the skin; however, its overgrowth can cause itchy, irritated skin and visible dandruff. Insufficient rinsing of products, using harsh shampoos or unsuitable scalp care can also contribute to their formation.

Advice: Changing your shampoo and limiting harsh habits, such as combing when dry or using hot air, can help. In the case of hormonal imbalances or a deficiency of B vitamins, it may be necessary to address the problem in other ways.

Use and application

Gently run the shampoo over wet hair, lather with your fingers, leave for a while and rinse. You can also lather the shampoo in your hands and apply the foam to your hair. If your hair isn't wet enough, the shampoo might not lather sufficiently – try wetting it more. If you use styling products or are in a dusty environment, repeat the process.
